Building a jewelry charm bracelets collection is an adventure in the making. However, many people consider it to be an expensive hobby. Collecting diamond rings may just be that. However, collecting jewelry charms is much more fun and less expensive. The best thing about collecting charms and creating your own charm bracelets is that there are so many from which you can choose and so many places you can wear them.

A friend of mine loves to collect charms. Her collection includes more than 300 individual pieces. Of course, like many other people her collection began with only a few pieces. After talking with her about her hobby I decided to share some of that information here with you.

Q: How did your interest in collecting charms begin? Is it expensive to get started? Some individuals think that collecting jewelry is not such a good money and time investment. How did you overcome such misconceptions about the hobby of collecting jewelry charms?

A: I received my very first charm bracelet as a teen. I was hooked after than and always asked for more charms to add to my bracelet. Soon after, I began choosing my own charms. If you pace yourself, it does not have to become a single large investment. Collecting jewelry charms is similar to treasure hunting I think, since you never know when you may find your next charm.

Q: Do you have a special way to choose the charms you collect? Is there a particular precious metal you prefer? I know that you can find charms in various types of metals today. Is there something specific you search for while adding a new piece to your collection?

A: I like all sorts of charms, if I can wear it, I will add any charm I can. I love to wear them and show them off. Since there are so many to choose from there is always something I find to add to my collection. I suppose I am a bit fond of yellow gold charms more so that white gold or sterling silver.

Q: How do you wear them? Do you have enough charm bracelets to add all your charms too? With so many in your collection do you find that there are some that you never had the opportunity to wear?

A: I make a point to wear every charm I own. If I cannot wear them to show them off, there is no good reason to have it. Anytime I want to wear one, I can use a blank bracelet and then add any charm I want to that will display how I feel.

People collect charms and charm bracelets for many different reasons. You can collect charms as an investment or you can collect them to help you express yourself. Charm collecting is a fun hobby that you can enjoy. Just remember to start small and pace yourself and you will be able to enjoy your hobby for a lifetime.
